Congratulations! ... You're Pregnant
Me and my husband, Justin, had talked about having kids for some time. We'd been married for a little over a year and knew it was time and we were ready. We both hadn't been the type to regularly go to the doctor for checkups. It had been years for me and I think the same for him so first we wanted to check and make sure all the parts necessary for baby-making worked ;-) haha. I asked a good friend, who worked at Womens Hospital what OBGYN she advised and she said, Dr. Taavon.
I set up my appointments for a pap-smear, blood work, and all that was necessary to get things checked out. I brought up concerns I had to Dr. Taavon about irregular periods and wondered if that would pose a problem for baby-making. I also questioned the medicine Clomid, which is suppose to help regulate menstruation and help your eggs drop once a month like it's suppose to. He said that since we wanted to make babies now and I'm irregular that Clomid was a good option but first I would need to have blood work done to make sure I wasn't already pregnant. So, we scheduled that appointment and I went home.
I went home thinking "Yay! I'm going to have regular periods for once and we can get this baby-making started!". I was also really excited because a side-effect of Clomid is that more than 1 egg could be released during ovulation, so the chance of having twins was greater, still slim but greater. While having twins is very scary, it's also pretty exciting, so I was pretty pumped up thinking we could have twins!
May 5th, 2014. The day of my appointment came and the Asian lady who drew my blood did such a good job. I hardly felt anything and she didn't let the needle wiggle in my arm, like the black lady did previously. The nurse told me I would have to wait about 15-20 minutes for the results of my blood work to show I wasn't pregnant, then ba-bam it's on to getting Clomid!
I waited in the lobby, texting Justin, reassuring him I couldn't be pregnant and telling him how excited I was to get this process started and the possibility of twinsies. Little did I know, those thoughts were all about to change.
The nurse opened the door, looked me in the eye and said "Congratulations! You're Pregnant!!" I started crying happy tears and said "What!! Are you serious!!" My heart was pounding with excitement, I was getting fidgety with joy, and the tears were flowing. There was no need for me to take a medicine to get pregnant. My irregular periods had no effect on our baby-making abilities. And I... was pregnant!!
I was still in complete shock, crying and speechless, as the nurse explained how the blood work showed I was very early in my pregnancy. It was definitely too early for an at-home-pregnancy-test to show a positive and too early to even see the symptoms of pregnancy. She gave me a big bag of goodies as I scheduled my next appointment and left the office. I was smitten the whole way home and couldn't wait to tell Justin the news. I debated on whether I should just come out and tell him or wait and try to surprise him in a fun way. I suck at keeping secrets and knew this was one that I wouldn't be able to hold back from him.
I got home, and tried to contain my excitement. He asked me how the appointment went and I said good and showed him the blood work test results and said we're gonna have a baby! We were both so happy in that moment and I remember him saying "I kinda had a feeling because you were all like 'I'm not pregnant' and I figured you probably were". Now what we wanted to know was how far along was I and when were we gonna have this baby!!
